Five for Friday!

Gee this year is flying by! Nearly June already! Here is my Five for Friday for another week! Thanks Doodle Bugs Teaching!

In Science the children are investigating growing plants. They read the Potato People and made cute Potato People! LOVE!

Fishy Addition - the children used a magnet to pick up two fish (with paperclips attached) and added together!

To celebrate Reconciliation Week we saw a performance of the Dreamtime Story, Tiddalik the Frog - we drew pictures and wrote about Tiddalik.

Friday was the last day for my student teacher. She gave a beautiful bunch of flowers - I felt very special!

I was excited to receive my new necklace during the week. One of my friends hand paints the beads and makes the necklaces. I LOVE! You can follow her page on Facebook here

Math Game Monday!

Monday again! Another week down and another week closer to reports needing to be written! I will get to them!

Thanks to Mel at From the Pond for the button, pictures and background each week

This week's game can be played at anytime - all you need is something to write with! It is most suited to children in Grades 3 upwards as they continue to develop their mental maths skills.

Five for Friday - on Sunday....

I'm a bit slow to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching this week, but I wanted to share a few photos from my week last week, so it is Five for Friday on a Sunday!

Our sound this week was Gg - we don't work in alphabetical order, rather the order we feel children need to develop their reading and writing independence. I am sure the children's favourite time of the week is when we watch Sunshine Online Lettergetter and then brainstorm some words. Here are our last three weeks!

Our inquiry topic at the moment is "Our Family" which has worked in perfectly with making and interpreting graphs. Here are some...

I received some more Maths books this week from Book Depository! I think about 10 in all! I will do a review of some very soon, but in the meantime I must say - I am loving the Math Start books! Can't wait to use them in my classroom!

This week in Art, the children made Picasso Guitars - of course they had no idea who Picasso was, but they do look Picasso inspired! I love the random colours, they make our room look great!

Friday we celebrated Education Week in Victoria with a Science morning. The children had lots of different experiments to work through around the room and we had some parents stay and help! They had a great time!

Math Game Monday!

Monday again! This week seemed to go especially fast!

Thanks to Mel at From the Pond for the button, pictures and background each week

This week's game requires only dice and cards and can be played at the drop of a hat! It is simple and the children will love playing it!

Paula's Place Inspired

Last week one of my fellow Victorian bloggers Paula posted about teaching children how to write and the importance of using pictures. You can read her blog post here.
Paulas Place

Everything she said made absolutely sense to me, but I had never broken it down to the degree she had. I had always put the emphasis on the writing, not the picture, when in fact, to some degree, it needs to be the other way around!

On Friday, I took her idea and put it into action.

Firstly I was amazed at the creative ability of the children in my class. I know I have been teaching them for 14 weeks now, but never had I said, draw in grey lead first - amazing! Usually I get blue people, scribble and no facial expressions. Here are a few I love...

Then we coloured it in.

(I loved the colourful snow!)

To explain - my teaching partner from last year broke his foot and he can't do much at the moment - we decided to make him a book of him doing all his favourite things to cheer him up - waterskiing, snowboarding, playing basketball and teaching.

Some children had a go at writing words themselves, other's copied directly from the board!

I was so happy how they turned out - I will definitely be using this strategy a lot more often!

Thank you Paula!

Five for Friday

Very excited to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching this week for Five for Friday! (Which actually means I remembered to take photos this week!)

1. I have been so proud of the children this week. They are working hard all the time and really making leaps and bounds! We used Tania Poultney's Alphabet Robots this week and the children loved them! I loved being able to add some fine motor skills in there too!

2. I was doing some testing during the week (it is coming up to report time) and I saw the school dog Rosie having a little lie down in the corridor. I had to take a picture - very cute! Rosie comes to school everyday with her teacher owners. The children love her!

3. We have played this game of matching up cards a few times, this time I added in the ordinal numbers to see if they understood - Too Easy I was told!

4. I have a student teacher at the moment and for "Ll week" she made lizards withe children. They look great on the wall! They water coloured the background then practiced their cutting skills to stick paper on top of the lizard. One girl commented she was making a chameleon! I love teaching young kids, they come out with the best thing!

5. Autumn has finally come to our town! It only took until nearly winter! The leaves have started changing colours and dropping. Leaf flights seem to be in at lunchtime and when the wind blows down the leaves, you would think it was snowing! (Something these kids know very little about!). We made these great autumn crafts during the week. First we read a story "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt" then went outside to look at our trees. Then we did the trunk, hand and leaves! They look great!

Have a wonderful weekend!

May Currently

I'm linking up with Oh Boy 4th Grade for another Currently!

Here is May!

It's currently Saturday morning in Australia. I have the laptop on my lap, the TV on, the heater going and the puppy outside going crazy! I could probably stay here all day, but I better not! Cleaning is calling....

I am loving that finally two months in Autumn, the leaves are finally starting to change colour! School is going to look beautiful over the next week - I love the cold, rain and the fact I can wear my Ugg Boots! If only I could wear them to school!

Lots to do this weekend so I am hoping it goes nice and slow.

I need to get a few things sorted in the spare room so I can get into my crafty cupboard and have some fun - I haven't made any cards since Christmas and I need some time!

Have you checked out Paula's Place? Paula is currently teaching Grades 5/6 but she taught Kindergarten last year, so she has great resources across the levels! She is a leader in her school and I love reading her posts! Check out her blog!

Have a great weekend!
