Math Game Monday - Simple and Fun!

I am now up to the 11th week of my weekly series "Math Game Monday". Each week I upload this resource into cyber world, watch how many people visit my page, get a couple of comments, but really have no idea how many people download and appreciate my games! This week I have received some lovely comments and emails telling me how much people love, appreciate and enjoy these games. It has been so lovely to hear! You know who you all are, so thank you very much! I would love to hear from you if you are a regular downloader!

I also listed the first 10 games on Teachers Pay Teachers as a pack to download. I considered maybe this a freebie, but then decided that 10 hours of work probably shouldn't be free (and I like giving the freebie part of it away to my blog followers). Needless to say - it isn't expensive, so if you are new to Math Game Monday and don't have the time to click through all the previous posts and download the pdf's, you could head over to TpT and download it here.

Today's game is Hundreds Chart. You will need a deck of cards for each child, a hundreds chart each and coloured markers. Very simple, but great practise of using numbers. When I was typing it up, I actually decided I liked the variation better than the game itself - see what you think!

All instructions are included in the download, including a hundreds chart (just add markers and cards!). Simply click on the image below!

Do I Need More Clipart - Of Course I Do!

Thanks to Facebook, I recently discovered Jessica Weible Illustrations - WARNING - If you haven't discovered her yet, you will soon become addicted!

Here are some of her cute designs I have...

But I have a problem, she keeps having sales and I keep buying more clipart! Now I know I probably don't need it, but what happens if I do need it, I don't want to have to pay full price, especially when there is a sale - well that is what I tell myself anyway - hehe!

Jessica is currently having a 40% off sale until Friday! That's nearly 50% off, that's nearly half price! Head over there now! I just spent a cool $5 and got a heap of clipart - love her singles!

Jessica also has a daily freebie, which I love, but just means I have to visit her store on a daily basis - that's not a bad thing, right?

Greg Tang Books - LOVE!

If you are an avid reader of my blog, you will know how much I love reading Greg Tang's books to help teach concepts in Maths. If I can teach something through a picture story book, then I will do it!

Here is one of my favourites (I have lots others too, only another teacher has currently stolen my Maths book collection and this is the only photo I have on file!)

Anyway, Greg Tang contacted me over the weekend via email to let me know about his new website. You can check it out here.

These are some sections I loved and can't wait to use.
All Greg Tang's book are now available as eBooks! I can't wait to use them on my Interactive Whiteboard!

LOVE some interactive games for our ICT Maths time!
I CAN'T wait to download some of these apps on our School iPads!

I hope you all have time to check out his new website soon - I can't wait to explore more and find out great resources, eBooks, videos and games I can use in my classroom!

Five for Friday

Another Friday - already! I am sure time is going way too fast for some of you about to finish the school year - it is always very busy! Good luck getting everything done!

It’s time to link up with Five for Friday once again.

This week, on Monday morning, I was greeted with two surprises.

The first – the desk fairy had visited, I was very excited, I didn’t know there were cutesy teachers at the school whole like borders and clipart like me!
The second, a boy in my class had given me a lovely present for Mother’s Day, even though I am not a mother! That was super nice of his family, so we talked in our class about some things teachers do that Mum’s do too! He is from Nigeria and his family have only been at the school for 3 months – they are beautiful!

We finally had some great rain! We really hope it continues so all the farmers can get their crops out soon!
National Testing is Over! We were so excited. As I blogged about earlier in the week, we had a week full of fun in the afternoon to have something to look forward to everyday. The kiddies were superstars!
Don’t let the pigeon…. – Persuasive Writing

When I was looking after my cousin in California, we used to read “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” and other pigeon books on a daily basis. Although Lily was only 6 months old, she loved them, and I do too! I have all the books and love reading them to my class each year. This year, we used “Should the Pigeon Drive the Bus?” as a persuasive writing topic. The end result was some of the best persuasive writing I have seen from Grades 3 and 4’s! What a fabulous topic!

Time for Fact Families 3 for Free!

We are onto our Addition and Subtraction unit! So it is Fact Family time and 3 for Free!

Here is a cutie poster I made up for the lesson.

We started off playing Triangular Cards.

Then we moved into looking into more what it means when I know one sum, then I get 3 more for free! Children pulled out a fact family card and write the 4 sums they could make using those numbers.

When the children were finished, they rolled 2 x 20 sided dice then added those numbers together to make the third number. Then we wrote the 3 other sums we get for free!

I got this reflection idea from Top Notch Teaching - children drew either 1, 2 or 3 sides of triangle depending on how they thought they went today.

You can download your own Fact Family Triangles from this pack, including a 3 for Free poster!

Multiplication and Division pack to come soon...

Autumn Painting

Although we are in our third month of Autumn, it is only now that it is starting to cool and the leaves are changing colour. We have these gorgeous trees at my school - LOVE

Since it was National Testing week this week, we needed some fun time in the afternoon. We painted some cute Autumn Trees.

We started outside, looking at trees and their branches and looking at the colours of trees. Then we went inside and used a paint brush to paint a trunk and branches.

After that we used our finger prints to put on leaves - they loved getting their hands dirty!

Then we mounted it on coloured card - love the end result! They have brightened our room! It would be really easy to do spring trees too with white, pink and green.
